If I Were You

If I were you, I’d resist

Crying out to this mess;

You’re allowing yourself

To endure this pain and distress.

Not to mention the drama

You’re committing yourself to;

What’s the deal mama?

Can’t you see its controlling you?

It’s a shame

You’ve lost your way;

Trying to press on

Forgetting to pray.

This is not a luxury

To which you can do without;

Every time I ask

You seem to have doubt

If I were you, I’d stop

Relying on other folk;

They laugh when you see not

To them you are merely a joke.

Do you not understand?

The power you hold

Is at your command?

All you do is what they allow;

You want to do more

But just can’t see how

What is it you need?

Can you not feel

When your heart begins to bleed?

If I were you, I would not

Continue to give in;

Everyone you meet

You can not call your friend.

Do you not recognize?

Opportunists when you see;

Obviously can not

That's what you're actions tell me.

But there’s so much more

For you in store;

Let life be your window

Step away from the door.

You must not allow the burden of stress

To conquer your life

Eagerly claiming your happiness.

If I were you, I’d quit

Abusing and misusing me;

Allow yourself to be at peace

Let your mind and soul fly free.

Give yourself a chance;

Don’t mistake real life

With the fantasy of romance.

Just prepare your mind

For the road ahead;

Stick to the struggle

Concentrate on you instead.

Do not faint

Continue to pray;

Believe what you must

And let come what may.

Find the answer to the you

Buried deep within your heart;

Forgive yourself of tribulations

This is the best place to start.

If I were you, I’d shout out

As loud as I can;

Because I know now

That I am in high demand.

I can conquer all that

Conquered me;

But I will not stop

Until my soul sings free.

So I'm running this race

No more standing to the side;

This is now your truth

To it you must abide.
