Smarty Pants

As time grows old

Old things become new

I've learned to trust my gut

Especially when I can’t trust you

Your voice shouts over me

Answering all the world asks

But I can’t stop wondering

Just who assigned you this task

Who made you the star of this show?

Who told you your way is the right way to go?

Who whispered this power in your ear?

And why doesn’t your position seem sincere?

I wish I had the luxury of knowing it all

Surely the deed is a heavy load to bare

The burden of always knowing what’s best

Challenging your words, who would even dare

I say to you this and pray for you a clue

Many years you have, but not this one truth

No matter how much you know, respect is due

There's always someone who knows more than you.
